Remember Baba Constantly

IMG-20131119-WA0002While  I  was  living  at  Meherazad, Eruch  would constantly  inquire  after  my  health. For  years  I suffered  from  nausea,  vomiting  and  sensitive digestion  and  Eruch  would  express  his  concern. Once  we  were  taking  our  early  morning  walk down  the  Meherazad  road  when  Eruch  inquired about  my  health. Then  he  said,  “Take  care  of  your health. There  are  three  things  you  should  take care  of ~ your  physical  health,  your  mental  health and  your  spiritual  health. Take  care  of  your physical  health  through  exercise,  nutrition  and medicine.  Take  care  of  your  mental  health  through good  and  positive  thoughts, good  words  and  good deeds.” Eruch  stopped  and  did  not  say  anything  more. I  do  not  know  whether  he  was  thinking  about  what to say  on  spiritual  health  or  whether  he deliberately  stopped  to  see  if  I  was  alert  and  would ask  him  about  the  most  important  subject.

As Eruch  continued  to  be  quiet, I  asked  him, “What about  spiritual  health?  Shouldn’t  good  thoughts, good  words  and  good  deeds  take  care  of  mental health  as  well  as  spiritual  health?”  Eruch  said  very slowly,  as  was  his  nature, “No, for spiritual health you have to go beyond good and bad. You must have  only  ‘God’  thoughts,  ‘God’  words  and  ‘God’ deeds.

Baba, 1934, Source Lord Meher, [c]AMBPPCT.Most  of  the  time  we  are  caught  between the  opposites  of  good  and  bad,  which  may  be necessary  for  the  running  of  society  or  an institute. However,  when  you  go  beyond  good and  bad  and  cultivate  God  thoughts  only,  a  time will  come  when  your  words  will  also  be  God’s  only and  eventually  your  deeds  will  also  be  God’s.  You will  become  His  medium  for  carrying  out  His deeds. That’s how it is.” I was  dazed  by  what  Eruch  was  saying. Although  I  grasped  it  intellectually, I  had  not  the faintest  idea  about  how  to  apply  it  in  my  daily  life.  Feeling  exasperated, I  asked  Eruch, “How  do  I achieve  that?”

Matter  of  factly  he  replied, “Invoke  His  Grace. Beg  Him,  fall  at  His  feet,  and  remember  Him constantly. Do all this sincerely. Have a sincere longing  in  your  heart  for  that  goal  only.  Let  this  be the  single  and  the  most  important  desire  of  your heart  that  burns  all  other  desires  to  ashes.  When you  do  that,  then  you  are  taking  care  of  your spiritual  health.  When  you  are  spiritually  healthy, His  Grace  is  bound  to  descend  and  you  become Him. That’s  how  it  is.”
